When is a pick up line a pick up line?

I was in the office today and I met a really nice guy in his early 30's. Tall good-looking, good career. Kinda shy and doesn't really feel comfortable

on line dating. I asked him" how are you meeting girls?" He said , " I really don't". He then tells me , I see girls I am attracted it to all the time. So I ask him,

do you speak to these girls? He says NO! I wouldn't want to sound like a guy with some pick up line or something! So it made me think.

What is a "pick up line" and why would this guy think approaching a girl would automatically make her feel like he was throwing out a "pick up line?. He didn't come across

to me as some player. He seemed nice and sincere. He was looking for a relationship, or we wouldn't be talking. What I told him is Go up say hello, be sincere.

Give a compliment. who doesn't like to hear a compliment? If you approach a girl respectfully, say something sincere, and give her a compliment. How in the world

would anyone perceive that as a pick-up line? What is the worst thing she could say, thank-you. If you approach with confidence, sincerity and good intentions.

At the very least you will get a smile back. If she has a boyfriend , or she isn't interested in speaking, so what , you tried!

How are you going to meet girls that you are attracted to if you don't speak with them? This approach might not work at 2 a.m. at a bar when the girl has her guard up.
